Overview of the Wine
The Bard is a wine based on meaningful relationships with growers. We source fruit from vineyards throughout Napa Valley in order to blend together a complete expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from the vintage. In 2019, we created the first special edition wine called The Bard Blair Edition in order to honor our deep respect for the Blair Vineyard and the family that has farmed it for decades. In 2022, we created another special edition - this time based on Sauvignon Blanc - to honor grower Tom Gamble and his Riverbound Vineyard. Going forward, we may highlight other distinctive sites or growers with the special edition series. Realm stands on the shoulders of giants.
Like The Bard, the label art is taken from an antique book. In this case, it is an excerpt form “I Stood Tip-Toe Upon a Little Hill” from The Complete Poetic Works of John Keats, printed in 1895. The label highlights the line “On the smooth wind to realms of wonderment,” a feeling we hope this wine evokes.
The name Riverbound is a reference to the vineyard being surrounded on its west side by the Napa River and its east side by Conn Creek. These water bodies combine to retain fog during the growing season for longer hours compared to neighboring vineyards.

Winemaker's Tasting Note
We’ve been sourcing fruit from Tom Gamble for several years. Over a long lunch in Yountville last winter, we convinced him to let us bottle the wine from his fruit separately. This wine comes from the Preston 23 clone in the Cook block and the Musque clone from the Confluence block. Various lots spent time in neutral oak foudres, concrete eggs and stainless steel and were blended together for the final bottling.
Lemon, lime, kiwi, fresh tropical notes, white peach. A fairly full-bodied midpalate for Sauvignon Blanc. Brightness lifted by a crisp finish. This is the kind of wine we call “crushable”.
