It all started in Castelnuovo dell’Abate a unique place within the already rich area of Montalcino, it is as if nature and culture here had become even more diverse in something that we still do not know to the end!

Here for centuries the cultivation of the olive tree, more specifically of the Olivastra Seggianese, has marked the time of men in the fields. In the shadow of the extinct volcano, the Amiata, entire generations have dedicated themselves to the subsistence and care of centuries-old olive trees.

Here the Amiata is felt, with the crowds that are channeled between the mountain and the rivers and the clouds that run fast towards the summit, sometimes leaving us dry but other times saving us from the violence of the water at the end of summer.

The land in Castelnuovo also tastes all its own. Here the seabed emerged were thrown high or lower with violence, in a series of landslides, explosions, earthquakes that we still struggle to explain. Someone credits the genesis of these soils to the thermal waters and their energy, someone else to the volcano that was settling; whoever the author was the author had fun sculpting a mosaic of landscapes.

Winemaker
Francesco Illy

Grape / Blend
100% Sangiovese

Origin
Tuscany, Italy

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
An intense ruby red with elegant orange nuances. The nose is expressed with a symphony of aromas, ranging from cherry, strawberry, violet with a fresh balsamic note of herbs. To be a Rosso di Montalcino the wine is structured and defined, in the mouth it is wide and soft with a beautiful persistence.

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
A rich ruby color, the 2020 Rosso Di Montalcino Sogni E Follia has all the personality you come to expect from this estate, with a savory, rustic edge intertwining with ripe fruit of wild mixed berries, saddle leather, and wild Mediterranean herbs. Medium to full-bodied, it saturates the palate and has an impressively long finish and a sunny feel while retaining good purity. A pretty darn serious Rosso, it offers a great lens into what this estate is all about and what you can expect from their top bottlings. It is also not lacking in structure and has a good deal of ripe tannins to hold it all together. I would probably even blind this and call it Brunello. Bravo. Drink 2024-2034.

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
With fruit from Galampio in the far western part of the appellation, the Podere le Ripi 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Sogni e Follia comes from limestone-based soils with silt and sand. This 20,000-bottle release spends two years in large oak casks. It shows dark concentration with lifted aromas of dried raspberry, cocktail cherry, dried garden herb and cinnamon. It is an unusual wine but charming nevertheless.

For those in the know - this is from the founder of Illy Coffee - a very biodynamic project with the highest ethos and very very minimal additional sulfer. The ROSSO from this property are ELEVATED - and really are BABY BRUNELLOS... a little more expensive than ROSSO but way more wine.

Product size: 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0275/0441/0666/files/PodereLeRipi_SognieFollia_RossodiMontalcino_Tuscany_Italy_2020.jpg?v=1784077536
https://merchantofwine.com/products/podere-le-ripi-sogni-e-follia-rosso-di-montalcino-tuscany-italy-2020
