Overview of the Wine

The Mexican father and leader of the Independence Priest Miguel Hidalgo harvested wine grapes in the 19th Century
in the same land in which the grapes that produce this wine are cultivated today.

Pavo Real, Spanish for Peacock is a unique wine, an assembly of originally European varieties. These grape varieties are cultivated in higher elevations, 2000 meters above the sea level. We invite you to enjoy a glass of Mexico’s rich history.

Tasting Notes from Wine Consultant Ian Cauble

"Pavo Real Red wine exhibits intense and fruit forward aromas and dried strawberry, black pepper, cacao nibs, wet leather and dried clay. The palate is full, rich and spicy with flavors of preserved raspberries, strawberries, bitter chocolate and dried herbs."

Review by Ian Blackburn - 91 points

Mexico is a fantastic destination for California wine fans and continues the blended "mosaic" approach. Playing a strong hand in classic mediterrianean varietals of Grenache and Tempranillo blended with with a modern touch of Merlot and Cabernet  created a beautiful regional blend. The Mosaic approach separates the wines of Mexico from those of California or Europe and interplay with both mindsets.

Pavo Real is a wonderful value and delivers a punctuated red fruit nose and chewy tannins in just the right proportion, savory acidity, mouth-filling ripeness and fruit character that over delivers at the price point. Flavors of strawberry and black cherry skins lead to a full spice rack and good richness. A nicely tapered finish focuses on the distinct minerality of Baja and just enough tension in the mouth, I am really impressed with the value proposition and think this is an excellent representative from Baja! - 91 points
