About the Producer
"Friends’ enjoying the moments and experiences of tasting fine wine is how our story began. Individual experiences combining a collective goal to produce world-class wines that are defined by power and grace.
PATINÉ (pa-tee-nay) means to have skated in French; an act that requires both power and grace. Jim’s career as a professional hockey player was defined by the game that requires strength, endurance, structure, balance, elegance, and skill. It is not a surprise that these are the very same qualities that we strive to achieve in the production of our Single Vineyard Designate Pinot Noir. We are committed to sourcing fruit from vineyards that are meticulously farmed in an effort to produce handcrafted world-class wines. We are not only thrilled but also humbled to have our friend and winemaker Mike Smith at the helm of our endeavor."

Overview of the Wine
Perched on the western edge of Sonoma Mountain, ranging in elevation from 300’ to 840’ above sea level, Gap’s Crown vineyard takes advantage of the steep Sonoma Mountain hillsides to promote natural airflow and drainage within the vineyard. As part of the Sonoma Coast AVA, the Vineyard is located on Sonoma Mountain where its surrounding southwest facing hills meet the Petaluma Wind Gap.
To the south of the vineyard, the hills of the Sonoma Mountain turn southeast and channel cool breezes of the Petaluma Gap toward the San Pablo Bay. To the north, Sonoma Mountain gives way to Crane Canyon and the northwest hills which helps create a natural fog pocket around the vineyard. Typically, the coastal fog trapped in this pocket takes longer to burn off during the latter days of the growing season. This lingering fog at the end of the growing season allows the fruit in Gap’s Crown Vineyard to ripen slowly, developing sugar and phenolic ripeness in unison.
The 2018 vintage is a beautifully balanced wine showcasing the near perfect growing season. At an elevation of 300-800 feet above sea level, Gap’s Crown sits in the heart of the Petaluma Gap AVA.
This is an extremely rocky, well-draining site with northwestern exposure, which consistently produces powerful, concentrated Pinot Noirs in a New World-style. Its proximity to the Petaluma Gap, from which its name is derived, effectively moderates temperature during warm spells in the summer and fall that enables the crop to hang into late September and October in most vintages.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Red fruit-driven with lifted notes of baking spice and dark cherry aromatics. There is an electricity and intensity to the fruit in this wine. It has richness and layers of depth that are highlighted by an explosion of fresh fruit in the mid-palate.
