Overview of the Wine
Paolo Scavino is an historical winery in the Barolo region. It was founded in 1921 in Castiglione Falletto from Lorenzo Scavino and his son Paolo. Farming has always been a family tradition and passion.

Enrico Scavino together with the daughters Enrica and Elisa, fourth generation, run the family Estate. He started to work full time in the winery in 1951 when he was 10 years old. A young winemaker who inherited the passion and devotion for the land he belongs to. Through over 60 years of experience his focus has been to invest on important cru of Nebbiolo to show the uniqueness of each terroir.

Their work is inspired by the love and respect they have for their territory and they pursue purity of expression, complexity and elegance for their wines from the three local grapes Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo.

These values and culture have been carried on and never changed.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
This Barolo comes from the best plots of their seven cru. The diversity of soils, exposure and altitude characterizes each of these small but very important terroir. Unifying these diversities, the Barolo offers harmony and complexity with an overall character of the zone.

97 Points - James Suckling
A solid 2017 with a linear flow of fine tannins through the center of the wine providing structure and backbone that gives the wine lovely energy. Lots of blackberries, ripe strawberries and blue fruit. Long and vivid. Drink after 2024.

96+ - Ian Blackburn  Far from ordinary, this delicious and dense, a more fruit oriented "modern" Barolo that will blow correctly attuned minds.  A) its affordable luxury B) Its generous now C) its better than that - it maybe the best wine you. taste all year!  Color 14.5, Aroma 23.5 - mixture of black fruits, black and brown spices - roast orange peal, molasses lead to this cherry preserve Body is 22/25 and may gain weight over time - but there is a charm and ripeness that allow for access and we will see what time brings to this equation - not the locked down hard edged tannic monster of yesterdays Barolo - Overall - thrilling and delicious - 34/35 - total score -96+ Points - a bold and ripe beast of a Barolo that rewards drink me now behavior and probably outlives us all.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The Paolo Scavino 2017 Barolo bares the signature of Enrico Scavino on the front label as witness to the generational change at this estate, and countless others across the Langhe, that push forward through time thanks to a continual ownership handoff that goes from father to son. This classic wine is bright and full of vitality, showing a more cheerful side to this often austere Piedmont grape. Dark fruit and cassis segue to cedar and camphor ash.

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Sourced from seven vineyard sites, each fermented separately, and aged for 10 months in neutral French oak followed by one year in large cask, the 2017 Barolo is floral with orange blossom, clove, white pepper, and candied cherry. The palate is gentle and inviting, with notes of cranberry cocktail, rosewater, and stony earth. Approachable for fresh, early drinking, enjoy 2021-2032.
