Overview of the Wine
Winemaking may have been the logical evolution in our family’s long history of farming in the Dry Creek Valley. However, it took an absence from the valley and attention to those inner voices that led our winery founder Clay Mauritson back to the same vineyards he spent planting, tending and picking as a teen. What he came to realize was that he already had a lifetime of understanding about the subtleties and strengths of each micro-climate within the Dry Creek, Rockpile and Alexander Valleys. The only thing left was to DREAM BIG!
The Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Sauvignon Blanc embodies our core philosophy: Wine is made in the vineyard! This wine sees minimal oak and doesn’t go through malolactic conversion. It’s truly one of the purest expressions of Sauvignon Blanc you will find in California.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Our 2021 vintage is sourced from two unique estate vineyards in the Dry Creek Valley. Hardie Ranch, planted over two decades ago, is located in the northern part of the valley, along the banks of Dry Creek, where the soils are gravelly and deep, allowing for great water drainage and root penetration. Elvin Ranch is located in the southwest corner of the valley and was planted less than a decade ago. These younger vines are often shrouded in fog and experience lower daily high temperatures than the Hardie vines. Though the 2021 growing season was one of the driest on record, the resulting fruit produced wines that are beautifully detailed and intense, yet balanced. Each lot was hand-harvested, whole-cluster pressed and then fermented separately to achieve maximum depth and complexity.
Wonderfully perfumed aromas include candied green apple, evening Winter Daphne blossom, crushed wet stone and spicy peony, with a soft dusting of vanilla pod. The entry is bright, energetic and very inviting. On the palate, cleansing kumquat zest gives the wine focus, while a kiss of summer-ripened guava, and white pineapple carries the round and refreshing lift on the finish.
