Overview of the Wine
The Antinori family of Florence, one of the world's oldest and most distinguished wine producers, has lived in Tuscany since the 14th century and celebrated its 625th anniversary as wine makers in 2010. The current company president, Marchese Piero Antinori, believes in the tradition that the primary role of wine is to accompany food and enhance the dining experience. In Florence, the Antinori family has led a "Renaissance" in Italian wine making by combining long traditions, a love of authenticity and a dynamic innovative spirit.
Located few kilometers from Montepulciano, where southeastern Tuscany borders Umbria and Lazio, La Braccesca Estate is immersed in a pristine environment greatly loved and admired by travelers from all over the world. Montepulciano is the land of renowned "Vino Nobile", a wine appreciated already centuries ago by the Medici family. In the early 1990s, the Marchesi Antinori brought their experience, respect for tradition and capacity for innovation to this land of history and culture.
One of La Braccesca's strengths is the harmony between the past and the future, reached through a strong knowledge of winemaking and a infinite passion for quality. These qualities represent the mission statement of a young dynamic winery in one of the most prestigious winemaking areas of Italy.
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a blend of traditional Sangiovese with a small percentage of Merlot from the best sub-zones of the DOCG appellation. Vino Nobile has a distinctive, balanced and elegant character.
Grape / Blend
The 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano shows large intensity with elegantly etched aromas of dark fruit, plum, spice and bitter chocolate. The wine steps forward with mid- to full-weight intensity and medium length. However, you get plenty of dark fruit and spice in between.
Fresh and bright Vino Nobile with black-cherry, orange-peel and citrus aromas and flavors. Medium body. Fine tannins.
Aromas plum, blue flower a whiff of exotic spice shape the delicate, enticing nose. Tense and almost ethereal, the racy palate delivers Morello cherry, red currant, licorice and dried herb alongside vibrant acidity and fine-grained, dusty tannins. Drink 2021–2028.
92 Points - Ian Blackburn
Sangiovese (aka prugnolo gentile) - Vino Nobile often thought of as a rustic tuscan wine is given better treatment here. Elevated with purity of fruit, refined use of wood, and better "elevage." Nice tension and classic styling but shows care and consideration... with better fruit making its way to the glass. Wonderful seamless tension replaces bitter, awkward typical tannins.. and allows this Sangiovese to shine.
One of the best values PERIOD - from Antinori.
