Overview of the Wine
Beyond Category has amassed a serious following for its compelling power, distinct complexity and vast evolution in bottle. This Rioja driven beauty provides an experience of pure silk, as the deep texture of Tempranillo drapes across your palate. Layers of dark fruit, fig, fresh herbs and dark cacao, contribute largely to its electric core of bright, bursting fruit. Graciano and Grenache dazzle and whet all of one’s senses, for an insatiably long finish.

Being a gravity-fed winery allows us to stay true to our winemaking principle. We utilize concrete fermenters due to their pinpoint temperature regulating abilities as well as their small, yet signifcant, amount of gas exchange from the concrete’s natural porosity. Wines are drained and pressed before they go into a mixture of 100% French oak of which 30%-75% may be new depending on the blend. Once in barrel, the wine remains on its lees for an aging of 22-24 months before it is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Our wines then remain in bottle for an additional year and a half before they are released.

We are committed to making exceptional wines through sustainable and organic farming practices with minimal inputs.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
The lifted aromatics of this wine resemble the beautiful sound of a violin. Its nose is delicately wound around a core of concentrated red fruit characteristics such as cranberry, red currants and raspberry. White flower blossom, wet stone, graphite and juicy pomegranate play in unison with subtle notes of caramel popcorn, black tea and rich, fresh earth. The palate displays a harmonic balancing act with beautiful grip, yet plenty of brightness. This wine possesses a true focus that is playful and lively, leading into a cascading, soft, and generous finish.

97 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
Another thrill a second is the 2018 Beguiling, a Grenache-dominated wine that includes 15% Syrah. Its lighter ruby hue is followed by awesome notes of kirsch liqueur, blackberries, toasted spices, and roasted garrigue. Rich, full-bodied, powerful, yet also balanced, and with a distinct sense of minerality on the finish, it’s going to shine for 8-10 years as well.

This is one of the best lineups I’ve seen from Law Estate, and across the board, these are ripe, sexy, yet balanced wines that deliver the goods. They’re not for those looking for lightweight aromas and flavors but have incredible intensity while still showing balance, purity, and structure. Count me impressed.

95+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
A blend of 85% Grenache and 15% Syrah aged in 58% new oak for 19 months, the 2018 Beguiling has a medium ruby-purple color and a nose of berry jam, licorice, powdered sugar and earthy accents. It offers powerful, spicy flavors in a silky, super juicy frame and finishes long and layered. An elegant expression that isn't ashamed of its full California fruit. 920 cases were made. Drink: 2020-2030.

94 Points - Vinous
Glass-staining ruby. Expansive, spice-accented red berry and cherry preserve, spice-cake and floral aromas are complicated by suggestions of smoky minerals and succulent herbs. Lively, sharply focused raspberry and bitter cherry flavors become deeper and sweeter through the midpalate while picking up a mocha nuance. Shows impressive energy and spicy thrust on the velvety finish, which is framed by supple, even tannins. 58% new French oak. Drink: 2023-2031.
