Overview of the Wine
The famous writer Alexandre Dumas in his time adored the fine, fruity wines from the vineyards in and around Puligny-Montrachet, in the heart of Burgundy. Maintaining this reputation, we at Jomain Frères (brothers Philippe and Christophe and sister Catherine) persue viticulture and the production of red and white wines which are recognised worldwide. It is our passion, our love for wine, together with our best care and attention that result in wines of the highest quality.
Brothers Philippe and Christophe Jomain, along with sister Catherine formed this family domaine in 1992. The siblings focus on making wines from Chardonnay, which makes sense based on their impressive holdings of vineyards in Puligny-Montrachet, including vines in four Premier Crus and the Grand Cru of Bâtard-Montrachet. All of their vines are tended by hand without the use of chemicals, and all grapes are harvested manually. The wines are made without any manipulation in order to express each vineyard the grapes come from. There is never any more than 25% new oak used for the wines, and during maturation the family does like the rich mouthfeel that the wines get from extended lees-ageing and bâtonnage. These Puligny-Montrachet wines are classic showing great tension, depth of flavor, and steely verve.
Today, this know-how, combined with environmentally friendly cultivation and use of modern winery technology, ensure great Burgundy wines. The brand Jomain Frères offers you a wide choice of excellent red and white Burgundy wines made mainly from grapes from our own vineyards and, additionally, from purchased grapes, that we vinify and mature like our own.
All our wines are carefully produced, aged and bottled personally by us. We offer you wines of great character, which will titillate your palate. Of course nothing is as good as buying wine at the property with the opportunity to meet us, the winemakers, in person.
Vineyards of the Côte de Beaune. The vineyards of Puligny-Montrachet are situated on a short, gentle slope, facing East. At a height of 230-360m, the vines occupy brown limestone soils, or soils where limestone alternates with marls and limey-clay.
Grape / Blend
Our Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles is a still, dry white wine with a complex nose (Violet, acacia, honey), that develops with maturity.
In the mouth, it is absolutely harmonious, balanced and rather feminine. Its persistancy is aromatic and long.
The Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles accompanies fine and sophisticated dishes. Young, it harmonizes with Dieppe sole filet, stew of freshwater fish, laminated sweetbread... Older, it accompanies the richest and most powerful dishes, Lobster, Monkfish, grilled Turbot...
