Overview of the Wine
Marchese Lodovico Antinori discovered the property of Tenuta di Biserno near Bibbona, in the Alta Maremma area of Tuscany, in 1994, while looking for additional land to expand his Tenuta dell’Ornellaia vineyard. Given its proximity to Bolgheri, it is not surprising he was at first struck by the similarity in terroir. What he found in Bibbona, however, had so much potential, he was inspired to develop a quite different plan. With more hills and stones than nearby Bolgheri, this land appeared to be ideally suited to produce a new and different wine. In 2001 Lodovico and his brother, Piero, established Tenuta di Biserno as an elite wine estate.
This wine is from a nearby estate, Tenuta Campo di Sasso, comprised of 3 plots of 46 hectares, situated south west of Biserno and close to the town of Bibbona. The soils are very different from the ones of Biserno, made up of mostly sand and a little clay. The first vintage was in 2003 - a famously hot summer, which helped both to produce a great Syrah and to put the wine on the map. The wine is made from 32% Syrah and the remainder is a blend of Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
A medium intense nose of dark fruits, blackberries, some floral notes and a hint of spicy oak in the background. A light to medium rich body with a fine structure and balance. Pairs well with game dishes, roast pheasant or rich game stews. Slightly chilled, it is equally good in summer with picnics and barbecues.
90 Points - Vinous
The 2018 Insoglio del Cinghiale is a gorgeous, racy wine that captures all the allure of Bolgheri. Plum, licorice, dark spice and espresso are all pushed forward. A wine of tremendous appeal and allure, the 2018 Insoglio will drink well right out of the gate.
90 Points - Wine & Spirits
Fruit culled from the sandy soils near the Tuscan coastal town of Bibbona produce this juicy red, equal parts syrah and merlot with 14 percent each cabernets franc and sauvignon and 6 percent petit verdot. It offers flavors of crushed raspberry and blackberry cushioned by notes of vanilla and toasted nuts, and finishes with a pleasant hint of amaro bitterness.
