Hudson Vineyards, Grenache, Napa Valley, California, 2019
Overview of the Wine
"Situated deep in the heart of the rolling hills of Napa Valley’s Carneros District, Hudson Ranch and Vineyards is our agrarian dream. Producing world-class wine grapes for exceptional wines and Tuscan olives for verdant oil, raising heritage breed pigs, lamb and chickens, and growing a diverse array of seasonal fruits and vegetables for our grocery store, Hudson Greens & Goods, our farm encapsulates the true sense of wonder, possibility, and enthusiasm with which we start each day.
Hudson Vineyards produces grapes of distinction from uniquely situated sites on two hundred acres of vineyards. Over thirty years of meticulous winegrowing and winemaking experience goes into each bottle of Hudson Wine. Additionally, Hudson Vineyards’ premium grapes are sold to 27 wineries in Napa and Sonoma counties, some of which produce wines from specific vineyard sites identified as distinct and bear the ‘Hudson Vineyards’ designation on their labels."
"Since we first began planting Hudson Ranch and Hudson Vineyards in 1981, our endeavor has been to grow for taste and diversity; encouraging a polyculture using ethical, responsible farming practices. We are ever mindful that every decision we make each day impacts our crops, our environment, our staff, and our community."

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
This lovely garnet colored beauty lifts from the glass with cherries, strawberries and spice. Texturally it is smooth, round and seamlessly leads to a structured finish of fine tea tannins. It's charming, alluring and eminently drinkable.
The Grenache and Syrah were individually destemmed, sorted and fermented separately. The Grenache saw a short maceration period and was pumped over regularly in a stainless steel tank, while the Syrah was punched down by hand over three weeks of fermentation in a concrete tank. The wine was blended in late July of 2020 and bottled in November after a total of 12 months in the same puncheons.
93 Points: Ian Blackburn
A really nice Californification of Chateau Rayas.... which is always the goal of Grenache. Tomato plant, hypnotic nose of a bloody mary, soft and elegance - feminine... like pinot noir but with crunch... a little muscle in tannin that is gracefully package here. I love to nose, the balance the finish. Color 13.5/15 Aromas 24.5/25 Body/Structure 22.5/25 Overall Impression 32.5/35 = 93 Points
