Overview of the Wine

Established in 1998, Hewitson winery is situated in the heart of the Barossa Valley on the historic Seppeltsfield Road and boasts some of the oldest vines in the world. Their fruit is sourced from these dry-grown, pre-Phylloxera vineyards of the Barossa Valley and also single site vineyards in Eden Valley, McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills. They believe great wines are the expression of the soils they are grown in and in the seasons they grow. Through knowledge and experience we strive for balance, structure, concentration, power and breeding.

Tasting Notes

This is a red drinkers red at all levels, generous, full bodied, rich red and black fruits, fabulous tannins and will reward both immediate drinking and medium term cellaring.

95 Points - James Halliday - Australian Wine Companion

"Good colour; a stylish Barossa Valley shiraz that presents its blackberry, plum and fine spices in a supple, medium-bodied palate, tannins and oak both playing valuable support roles. Will go the distance without flinching."

92 Points - Campbell Mattinson - The Wine Front

"The brief is to produce a “traditional, full-bodied” Barossa shiraz that can be consumed young. It sure delivers on the brief. The fruit is dark, the fruit is juicy, the fruit had body and it’s all stack up-front. Tuck in. Coal and blackberry, saltbush and roasted, toasted, nut-like notes. There’s almost a slight char to this wine, in a positive sense. It drinks a treat."
