Federico Graziani 'Fedegraziani' Etna Rosso, Sicily, Italy, 2016 (Nerello Mascalese)
Overview of the Wine
A professional wine-taster from the age of 19, and at 23 – in 1998 – he won the AIS (Italian Association of Sommeliers) competition as best Italian sommelier, an achievement that gave him the opportunity to work at a high level alongside Gualtiero Marchesi, Stefano Cavallini, Bruno Loubet, Carlo Cracco, Aimo and Nadia Moron.
His vineyards are located at the foot of Mt. Etna, Italy, between 600 and 1,200 meters above sea level, on the northern and north-western slopes. It is a mysterious and special place, a unique ecosystem with its own remarkable climatic variability and a variegated landscape teeming with life.
There, for the past 2000 years, people have been growing vineyards in small plots of land reclaimed from the mountain, living in symbiosis with the volcano and adapting to the power and unpredictability of its elements. This is slow and ancient work, carried out by hand with toil, passion, and respect.
Grape / Blend
Nerello Mescalese, Nerello Cappuccio
Light, transparent ruby red. Fragrant on the nose, it opens with red fruits notes, strawberries, raspberries in a tangerine citrus freshness and a delightful mineral finish. It closes with vanilla and lightly spiced white chocolate. Particularly crisp and refreshing in the mouth, with a vivid and harmonic tannic perception. The aftertaste is delightfully clean and sapid as well, attractive and light-hearted.
