Domäne Wachau Liebenberg Federspiel Grüner Veltliner, Wachau, Austria, 2017
Overview of the WineDomäne Wachau is deeply rooted in the Wachau region and manages 30 percent of the entire Wachau vineyard area (400 hectares), including half of Austria’s most iconic vineyard, Achleiten. Additional famous vineyards such as Kollmitz, Liebenberg and Tausend-Eimer-Berg are found on the Domäne Wachau’s vineyard map and make it the only winery in the Wachau with wines from all of the most prestigious sites in the region.
The winery is led by Master of Wine Roman Horvath, whose team works closely with growers, and has instituted a vineyard quality assurance program. This sustainable vineyard management program includes measures of quality cultivation and is customized according to specific vineyards and vintage.
Austria imposes very stringent wine laws, and the Wachau region goes beyond these with their quality categories of Steinfeder, Federspiel and Smaragd to assure uncompromising quality.
The Wachau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, stretching from the banks of the Danube, benefits from the river’s role as a climate regulator. Many of the vineyards are very steep and terraced with very old, dry stone walls. The very best vineyards are vinified separately to produce single vineyard Gruner Veltliners and Rieslings.

This wine's closed nose reveals just a little hint of lemon for now. The palate is far more fluid, presenting juicy green pear flavors with intensely zesty lemon notes and subtle fern and moss suggestions. It's taut, slender and moreish, with a zesty, herbal finish. - ANNE KREBIEHL MW
