Domaine François Lumpp, Givry 1er Cru Rouge “Crausot", Burgundy, France, 2016
Overview of the Wine
In the late 1970s, François Lumpp and his brother inherited their family property, located in the Côte Chalonnaise. In 1991 he founded his own label with his wife, Isabelle. Using sélection massale cuttings, François developed his domaine around Givry's bestpremier cru sites, which, as in most of the Côte d’Or, are situated on the mid to upper level slopes of the rolling hillsides. The Lumpp domaine is an especially good fit here at KLWM because it embodies exactly what we look for in Burgundy: a true vigneron in a specific village. Every wine François makes is from Givry, from vineyards that he planted and nurtured himself–something that is exceedingly rare in Burgundy today, and will become more and more so over time.Grape / Blend

A spicy red and black pinot liqueur-like nose enjoys additional breadth in the form of violet, plum, earth and spice aromas. The exceptionally rich, full-bodied and suave flavors brim with dry extract that possess a highly seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a beautifully well-balanced, complex and persistent finish. This beauty should easily reward up to a decade of cellar time and is definitely recommended.

The 2016 Givry 1er Cru Crausot is a more gourmand expression of Givry, wafting from the glass with notions of ripe red fruits, fruit compote and licorice. On the palate, it's medium-bodied, velvety and ample, its fine tannins cloaked in juicy fruit. It will be hard to resist in its youth.
