Overview of the Wine
Considered the pinnacle of Burgundy, Domaine de la Romanee-Conti produces some of the world’s most revered wines from its tiny vineyards in Vosne-Romanee. Two of the Domaine's seven Grand Cru vineyards - La Romanée-Conti and La Tache - are monopoles (appellations entirely owned by the Domaine) and unarguably the greatest vineyards in Burgundy. Richebourg, Romanee-St.-Vivant, Grands-Echezeaux, Echezeaux, and Montrachet (in Chassagne) are also Grand Cru vineyards, yielding sublime wines that are among the most highly-sought, seductive and rarest in the world.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Shows clearly the airy and structured side of 2011. A certain sweetness. Bright and charming wine.

94 Points - Vinous
The 2011 Échézeaux literally jumps from the glass with a heady melange of dark red fruit, sweet floral notes and crushed rocks. Rich and explosive on the palate, yet backed up with significant structure and pure intensity, the 2011 is firing on all cylinders. First and foremost, the Échézeaux is a wine of pure texture. The Échézeaux emerges from 7-8 parcels in the Poulallières climat. There is so much to like here. (AG)

93 Points - Burghound
A discreet touch of wood sets off the gorgeously floral, ripe and wonderfully spicy nose of red currant, menthol, black cherry and cassis aromas. There is impressive volume and richness to the naturally sweet, silky and mouth coating medium weight flavors that are shaped by fine-grained tannins on the firm, complex, balanced and strikingly persistent finale that really fans out as it lingers on the palate. This wine continues to make really impressive progress.

93 Points - Decanter
The Echézeaux was picked on 10-11 September, yet had less obvious ripeness than the Corton, picked more than a week before. The aromas include blackberry, tea, and earth, along with a bit of menthol from using whole clusters in the fermentation. The texture is firm, lean, and somewhat ungenerous, but the tannins draw the wine out to a longer finish than the Corton, and there is still potential for improvement. (CC)

93 Points - Int'l Wine Cellar
Good bright, dark red. Pungent, deep, ripe aromas of redcurrant, minerals and graphite. A sweet, plush Echezeaux with a sexy juicy quality to its complex flavors of redcurrant, red cherry, spices and tobacco. Fine-grained, minerally and cool in the middle palate. Ripe and rich but with a restrained sweetness. The tactile back end nicely combines thickness and energy. An Echezeaux of finesse. Incidentally, Aubert de Villaine describes the 2011s in general as "supple and hedonistic wines with hidden charms." (ST)
