Casal do Ramilo, Jackpot Tinto, Portugal, 2017 (Organically Grown)
Overview of the Wine
Since 1937, the Ramilo family has been dedicated to wine making on the Atlantic Coast between Colares and Mafra, on the Portuguese west coast. Between Colares and Mafra, these Atlantic wines are created where the influence of the sea, combined with the influence of the hills develop a unique micro‐climate. This temperate climate paired with the rocky soils of the region, enables the creation of unique wines, both fresh and balanced. Four generations later, unwilling to accept the abandonment of local traditions, brothers Pedro and Nuno Ramilo dropped everything and returned to their origins. Facing opposite streams, moving rocks and mountains, they rehabilitated the family estates, saved old vines and replanted new ones. They rescued to oblivion the true vineyards of Colares and the noble grape varieties of the region. Their wines tell their story of this amazing region and family history.
Grape / Blend
Aragonez / Castelao
Portugal offers incredibly delicious wine for great values. This red wine is made from the Aragonez grape and shows juicy dark fruit and structured tannins. Unoaked, all stainless steel. Fruit forward but dry and nicely medium bodied. A great choice for dinner parties.
Review By Ian Blackburn - wonderful dark dense fruit with solid balance and weight. A great value in Red wine - I would serve this to anyone I meet and thinks its one of the best values in any room its poured. I think you might mistake it for a nice wine of Bordeaux, a blend of Spain or a value oriented super Tuscan blend. - 90 points IB
