Overview of the Wine
Blandys distinguishes itself for being the only family, of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade, which still owns and manages its own original wine company. Throughout its long history on the island, the family has played a leading role in the development of Madeira Wine. The family continues to live in Madeira, thus maintaining a tradition that dates back to 1811 - two centuries and seven generations producing excellent wines.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Golden orange color. A touch of biscuit and Madeira cake butteriness, with plenty of phenolic freshness and suggestion of grippiness. The palate has delightful medium-textured smooth, silky weight, the big dry finish of grapefruit zest and sweeter, raisin notes complex and involving.

99 Points - Decanter
The Blandys established themselves on Madeira in 1811 and are now in charge of the Madeira Wine Company. Aged for 49 years in seasoned American oak casks before bottling in 2017, this wine is mid-deep amber in colour with an olive-green glint. Fine, lifted woodsmoke characters on the nose are redolent of autumn leaves and bonfires. It has crystallised fruit on the palate with rapier-like power and intensity. The hint of sweetness (59g/l residual sugar) is offset by a streak of acidity, leading to a mouthwateringly fresh greengage finish yielding to a touch of savoury complexity. A wine that sings contralto from the glass.

95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This beautifully golden-colored, oak-aged wine is bone dry, with the intense acidity working with an orange-marmalade character. Together they give a mature wine that is ready to drink.

93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Bottled in 2018 and matured for 49 years in seasoned American oak casks, the 1968 Sercial exhibits a complex bouquet of mocha, baked apple, praline, dates, fine furniture polish and marmalade. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and incisive, with tangy acids, good concentration and a long, precise finish. With 59 grams per liter residual sugar and ten grams total acidity, it's a tangy Sercial that benefits considerably from aeration, becoming progressively more complete and integrated: two weeks after opening, the last glass was decidedly the best.

93 Points - Wine Spectator
Racy and refined, with lovely tension carrying the singed almond, clove-studded orange peel, bergamot and salted caramel notes along. Echoes of sweetness show amid piercing dryness. Drink now.
