Overview of the Wine
The estate, which bears the name of a noble family from Montepulciano, was taken over in 2009 by the Belgian Virginie Saverys. In a decade, under her leadership, Avignonesi has become the largest regenerative wine estate in Italy. Out of respect for workers, consumers and the environment, Virginie Saverys has banned highly toxic synthetic biocides - alas too widespread in the wine world - which poison populations, soils, air and water. Concurrently, the cellar has forbidden the use of yeasts, dyes, enzymes, tannins and other industrial biochemical adjuvants. Finally, Avignonesi is vigorously pursuing an energy transition policy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions drastically.
Convinced that there are no great wines without good grapes, Virginie focused her efforts on rehabilitating viticulture while giving the cellar a more supervisory role than interventionist.
Beyond giving back his rights to nature, Avignonesi also fosters the authenticity of its products. Virginie Saverys and her team have developed a modern style of wine refreshing, fruit-driven where elegance prevails. In short, wines that are a pleasure to drink.
The Avignonesi owns about 444 acres of vineyards fully certified organic and biodynamic. All wines are vegan and are made exclusively with grapes cultivated on the estate.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
This wine is made with Sangiovese grapes highlighting the balanced and harmonious traits of its habitat. The wine shows a sleek medium body, seamless tannins and a distinctive tasting profile. Great for the ‘now’ it reveals an impressive ageing potential.
In the glass it has intense garnet red reflections. On the nose, aromas of red berries, cherry and pomegranate and the unmistakable violet scent of Sangiovese. In the background a touch of vanilla and Mediterranean herbs. On the palate it is well balanced and ripe cherry and plum return, supported by a dense tannic texture. The body is warm, ethereal and enveloping with a long and persistent finish.

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is akin to living in Culver City...if Beverly Hills is Montalcino. Avignonesi is and has always been - one of the leading brands in the neighborhood. Recently I was able to taste the entire line, and while I typically limit myself to 1 wine per brand - I make a few exceptions and Avignonesi is one of them... I purchased 4 wines and wanted to buy them all. I look for wines that over deliver for the price... and that price can be ANY number! For less than $25, I'm not sure there is a wine in the world that delivers any more than this wine. At the same time, this is still Vino Nobile ... a pure play on place and Sangiovese... sizzling with focus, singularity, like a lazer... and the crispy - break your tongue off - chip a tooth tannins here are humming like a bell well struck... I love this wine and think you will too. Fruit skins, high tone aromatics, clean, clear, focused...Color 13.5/15, Aroma 23.5/25, Body 24/25, Overall 33.5/35 = 93+ Points

A very attractive red with plum and berry character. Some chocolate and walnut, too. It’s medium-to full-bodied with round, chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. 100% sangiovese. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
