Overview of the Wine
"An ongoing dialogue with singular vineyards"
La Follette winemaking is guided by the principle of sourcing fruit from the best regions and vineyards along the California Coast to create terroir-driven wines. Creating this “dialogue” with individual vineyards and long-term farmers has been the heart of our winemaking philosophy since our founding and continues today.
Chuck Jones planted his 5.5-acre Russian River Valley Hawk's Roost Vineyard in 1992. It is planted entirely to UCD 23 clone, a selection imported from Wadenswil, Switzerland in 1966. Wines produced at this site are typically big and muscular, owing to a combination of clone and site. Row orientation is uncharacteristically east-west, which contributes to even ripening fruit.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Deeply scented bouquet of dark cherry, forest floor, myrrh. Juicy on entry, the palate is densely layered with mulberry, cocoa and bay leaf spice. Grape tannins, characteristic of the clone, build to the late palate, creating a fine tension between savory and fruit elements. This intensely structured wine finishes with bright acidity.

Russian River Benchmarks line the glass - smell, color, richness, concentration and perfume. This is textbook RRV pinot from one of the unsung heroes of Sonoma wine. A great get at a great price... mouth is fresh, focused, supple, and sexy... one of my top wines this summer and beyond.... A must with the holidays' approaching.
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast
This is a robustly structured, energetic wine, robust in oak and spicy components. Leather and game give it an edginess of rough-hewn intensity, as white pepper contrasts well against flavors of strawberry and orange. - Virginie Boone
