The defining feature was a heat wave that settled down over the west coast for an extended visit. Let’s face it, this visitor overstayed their welcome by at least a week! It ended up splitting the season into three distinct harvests. The first brought in fruit that was ready before the real heat kicked in. This included our white varieties, usually the first grapes we pick at James Berry Vineyard, and our early ripening vineyards like Paderewski Vineyard. Then there was the middle harvest, when we brought in fruit knowing that after two weeks of hot weather, needed to come off. The flavors were finally there and if we left them much longer we would be picking raisins instead of grapes. So a chunk of fruit came in at this point, and thankfully we are well versed in co-fermentation, because varieties like Mataro, Carignan and Touriga National that are immune to heat really helped to buffer the varieties like Syrah, Graciano and Grenache, that are a little more temperamental when it comes to adverse conditions. Co-ferm was the name of the game during this part of the harvest, almost every lot of Grenache was 40% Mataro from the get-go. A marriage made in heaven. The last part of harvest included blocks that despite the heat, weren’t close, forcing us to let them ride. After the heat passed, we went out into the field with little manicuring scissors and actually dropped berry by berry the ones that had turned to raisins. A real PITA and we ended up losing 40% of that crop, but what we did eventually bring into the winery was sublime!

When it came time to blend up these 22s we were blown away. They had matured into gorgeous wines. Very aromatic in the red fruit spectrum, not much of that spicy pepper you get in the wet cool years, but real pleasers. If you’ve enjoyed our 2017s, you know exactly what you’re getting with the 2022s. They will open for business early and stay open late. The tannins are soft, but one thing the heat does is concentrate everything, so they are a hedonistic mouthful.

98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2022 G2 Vineyard checks in as 44% Grenache, 19% Mataro, 18% Graciano, 14% Syrah, and 5% Carignan that’s clearly from one of the leading sites on the west side of Paso Robles. Blackberries, red plums, Asian spice, pepper, candied violets, and incense-like nuances all shine in this killer wine. One, we have long had a passion for Rhone inspired blends. Two, Paso Robles is ‘America’s Rhone’. Those parts were easy. Our mantra was to find a vineyard site that could produce ultra-premium, limited production, Rhone and Priorat style wines that would be a true expression of the site. After two years of evaluating many potential sites (almost to exasperation), we finally found our Holy Grail. The analysis of 42 soil pits on this site revealed coveted limestone with low vigor soils. This, combined with the high elevation and steep slopes, was the unique and remarkable property that would produce the premium fruit we desired. Critical to our goal is a winery that can manifest the quality of the terrific fruit and create a world-class wine. We also believe that the Tasting Room should be an environment much like your home living room, where you can relax with friends and family while enjoying our Law Estate wines. As we continue to showcase and share the best that our estate has to offer, we will always be honored to have you joining us in the adventure.

Winemaker
Philipp Pfunder

Grape / Blend
86% Syrah, 14% Grenache

Origin
Paso Robles, California

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Aged 22 months in 70% new French oak, offering a seamless fusion of power and elegance. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a little shaking and coaxing to bring out notes of prunes, blackberry preserves, and dusty soil, followed by hints of black tea, Indian spices, and fallen leaves. The full-bodied palate delivers firm, chewy tannins and a lively backbone supporting the tightly wound black fruit, finishing long and earthy.

94 Points - Wine Advocate
The 2021 Jovian is a co-fermented blend of 65% Tempranillo, 15% Petite Sirah, 15% Grenache and 5% Syrah. It is a successful, modern expression of Paso Robles Tempranillo, which can often take on either an overly rustic or overly polished form. The nose opens with a medley of red and black fruits lifted by dried herbal accents and petrichor aromas. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with considerable tannic grip. It concludes with a serious, structured, sturdy finish of intense but precise tannins, welcomely filled in by its ripe, layered fruit profile. This will take a few years to integrate and become approachable, but it is very well executed, as with the rest of the Riise roster. Silken textures and ripe red berry fruits flood the palate, while a saturation of minerals and fine tannins adds youthful poise toward the close. Tremendous depth and clarity are on display, as the 2021 finishes structured and long, leaving a balsamic tinge to resonate. The Jovian is the most powerful wine in the Riise portfolio. It is a blend of 65% Tempranillo, 15% Petite Sirah, 15% Grenache, and 5% Syrah.

Product size: 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0275/0441/0666/files/Riise_Jovian_Tempranillo_Blend_Paso_Robles_2021.jpg?v=1764073674
kinero-alice-grenache-blanc-paso-robles-california-2024
Kinero, 'Alice' Grenache Blanc, Paso Robles, California, 2024

Overview of the Wine
Kinero Cellars is a boutique, small-production winery based in Paso Robles, California, founded by winemaker Anthony Yount. The label dates back to the late 2000s (around 2008 for the first vintage) and was built from Anthony’s passion for crafting expressive white wines — in part inspired by his desire to make white wines compelling even to those who claimed to prefer reds.

My passion for white wine, no doubt, stemmed from my father’s distaste for it. It’s not that I set out to make white wine out of spite, but rather, he inspired me. You see, he claimed to only like red wine, so it became my goal to find balanced and interesting whites that he would like. It didn’t take long as he slowly began to appreciate the depth and complexity that carefully sculpted whites can deliver. When I was presented with the opportunity to make my own wine, it was an easy decision to focus on making white wines. These wines are not only for those drinkers that enjoy the nuances of a handcrafted white wine, but also for those who pretend not to.

Winemaker
Anthony Yount.

Grape / Blend
100% Grenache Blanc

Origin
Paso Robles, California

93 Points- Ian Blackburn | AKA TEETH 14.5 + 23 + 23 + 32.5= 93 points
Why is the world not drinking more if this CRUSHABLE Grenache Blanc! Tension, rocks, fruit oh my! Melon Farm, Asian Pear tart - love the nose, mouth and texture. So refreshing and ZIP PA DEE DU DA DAY…. love it.

91 Points - The Wine Advocate
The 2024 Grenache Blanc Alice fermented in a mix of concrete eggs and cocciopesto amphora.
