Overview of the Wine
The Central Coast of California is a blessed region, naturally endowed with diverse microclimates that produce wines of exceptional power and density. Levo works to showcase the richness of our terroir while still maintaining delicate varietal specificity, electric acidity, immense tension, and perhaps most importantly a sense of levity or lift in the glass. It is our belief that wine has an innate ability to elevate experience, whether that be a special moment with family, celebration or a fine meal.

2021 marks winemaker Bret Urness’ 10th vintage. He continues to craft microlots in a warehouse located in Tin City, Paso Robles, California. His aim is to keep production low so he can personally shepherd each barrel along and maintain complete quality control. Levo does not have an annual case production, as we bottle only the best barrels in the cellar. Whatever doesn’t make the cut is not included in our final blends.

Levo is honored to be working with many talented Central Coast farmers, who maintain some of the very most sought-after plots of dirt in California. This includes Ruben Solorzano of Stolpman, Kimsey, Harrison Clarke and Rancho Boa Vista in Ballard Canyon AVA as well as Michael Larner of Larner Vineyards. We are also honored to be working with the likes of Bill Gibbs, owner of G2, McMahon family of Fulldraw, and Carl Bowker at Caliza in Willow Creek AVA.

Winemaker's Tasting Notes
In the glass Petite Sirah is over the top in every way (this appeals to me, and offends others) - really just like guzzling Rock n' Roll. Opaque color, massive acidity and colossal tannin - everything is turned up to eleven. Some people love it, some can't handle it. I have made Petite Sirah since 2013, when I was fortunate enough to get offered a old dry farmed block at Stolpman Vineyards in Ballard Canyon. This wine can age for decades, or be enjoyed upon release with a generous decant. It is always one of my favorite wines to make, as it is a true challenge to coax out the beast, while still maintaining beauty and elegance. Enjoy!

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck
The 2019 Petite Sirah 2 2 Tango is dense purple-hued and has an assortment of black and blue fruits as well as bouquet garni and sappy herb notes. With full-bodied richness, a monster of a mid-palate, remarkable purity, and a great, great finish, it’s a brilliant Petite Sirah that should evolve for a solid decade in cold cellars. The blend is 77% Petite Sirah, 14% Graciano, and 9% Syrah, aged in 69% new French oak.

92-94 Points - Vinous
The 2019 Petite Syrah 2 2 Tango is mostly Stolpman and a touch of Rancho Boa Vista, both in Ballard Canyon. Inky dark fruit, chocolate, licorice, spice and menthol saturate the palate. The 2019 has plenty of Petite intensity, but with tannins that have been expertly managed. There is a lot to look forward to.
