After the total destruction of the property by the Duke d’Epernon in the 1600’s, Count Blaise de Suduiraut replanted the vineyard and restored the estate to its former glory. On 18 April 1855 the estate was classed as a Premier Cru during the official wine classification programme in the Gironde winegrowing area. AXA Millésimes acquired Suduiraut in 1992 with the aim of preserving and perpetuating the estate's remarkable tradition of vineyard management and winemaking. Inspired by the great Suduiraut wines of the past, the new management has enabled this great vineyard to fulfill its full potential in recent years.

Winemaker
Christian Seely

Grape / Blend
92% Sémillon, 8% Sauvignon Blanc

Origin
Bordeaux, France

Tasting Notes
Lions de Suduiraut is an ideal introduction to Sauternes. First, the intense nose reveals notes of candied fruits, in particular apricot and melon, with hints of smokiness and minerals. Then, notes of vanilla and passion fruit emerge. The attack is round and fresh. Apricot and melon return on the palate with a very soft, non-sugary sensation, like an acid drop. The finish is smooth with notes of candied apricot. Two cuvées are produced by Audrey and Jean-Claude Vidal: a red Châteauneuf-du-Pape vinified according to ancestral methods and a white Châteauneuf-du-Pape whose production does not exceed 2,000 bottles. The vines are old, they produce low yields but of high quality. The average age of the vineyard is 70 years, the old vines are regularly replaced by new plans while respecting the original complantation. The vineyard is managed with respect for nature thanks to the use of organic composts. A powerful wine with noble tannins and aromas of kirsch, produced in the heart of the Côte du Py vineyard, around the cross overlooking the summit.

92 Points - Vinous
The 2024 Morgon Côte du Py has a vivid, stony bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit unfolding in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-boned tannins and a touch more sour cherry in the mix, especially on the piquant finish. Again, this is very promising and might become the edgiest of Burgaud's 2024s.

Product size: 750ml

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0275/0441/0666/files/Jean-Marc_Burgaud_Morgon_Cote_du_Py_Beaujolais_France_2024.jpg?v=1772192306
