Overview of the Wine
Inspired by the Joni Mitchell lyrics, “We are stardust. We are golden. And we’ve got to get ourselves back to the garden”, Nikki Pallerson is back with stars & dust’s inaugural 2020 vintage. After taking a a few years off after leaving Liquid Farm, Nikki was inspired to return to wine. Last summer, Nikki came up with the name and the back of the label explains it best: “We’re all the same and we’re all intertwined. Stars & dust is within the make up of these wines as well as the distinctive sites from which they’re grown. Nature is not outside us – we are nature.”
Grape / Blend
Mourvèdre
Origin
Kærskov Vineyard, Santa Ynez Valley, Santa Barbara, California
Winemaker's Tasting Notes
Wild herbs and white cherry on the nose with layers of strawberry, pomegranate and an earthy, saline type of minerality on the long finish. It’s literally the beach bottled.
92 Points - Ian Blackburn
This tiny inspired producer put a daft touch on this rosé effort. Inspiration meets perspiration as Nikki departs Liquid Farm and puts her own name on the line. I like the mood this wine provokes - subtle but distinctive, edgy but wise. There are are a series of volume nobs that have been adjusted to uniquely tune in and promote the unique characteristics of this fruit. Poised fresh wild berries, lavender, herbes de provence, mustard seed and saline. A generous mouthfeel with a clean and refreshing finish. Color 14/15 (pretty), Aroma 23/25 (inspired), Body 23/25, Overall impression 32/35 ("A" quality stuff). 92 points.
